Overview

Kaplan Financial Advisors, LLC is a Fee-Only (no products sold) firm that offers a high touch service to our clients. We provide comprehensive planning and investment management to busy clients who don't have the time, interest or expertise to manage their financial lives alone. We work with lawyers, insurance agents and other professionals to help our clients attain financial success. This is my 11th year providing financial planning and investment management to my clients. My average clients are preparing for retirement in the coming 10+ years, or are already retired. Either way, working with me creates more financial certainty for my clients and frees up their time to do other things. Previous to 2004, I had a successful international investment career in NY, Tokyo, the Netherlands and Singapore. I use my 30+ years of investment experience to work closely with clients so they can achieve their life goals for the reasons that are important to them. My clients have access to superb Dimensional Fund Advisors mutual funds (www.dfaus.com). These low-cost, high quality funds are not accessible to the general public; they fill certain asset class niches otherwise unavailable to the general public.


What is unique about you?

I'm passionate about providing objective Fee-Only financial planning solutions that are clean of product sales and commissions. To my mind, objective financial planning and non-product-driven investment management is as important as staying physically fit and healthy. After all, we're all living longer lives that require decades of funding! I come from an academic background. I formerly taught undergraduate students at Harvard and Smith College. I was awarded the Danforth Foundation Excellent in Teaching Award in the 1980s. I left academia in the 1980s and went into the business world where I worked for over 20 years in Japan, Singapore and the Netherlands.


How do you work with clients?

I combine precision analytics with an approachable, inclusive style. This approachable style works well with individuals of different stripes. It also works well with many couples - one person may need/like a technical approach to planning but the spouse/partner may quickly feel lost. My approach marries the two styles. This helps clients who feel unsure about financial issues, but seek guidance from a knowledgeable professional who won`t snow them under with excessive techno-talk. Money can be a very emotional issue. I help people sort through money issues so they don`t become an obstacle to achieving their financial goals. Sometimes I meet with a client and his/her parents or adult children to help mediate financial issues or concerns that come up. Most of my clients have experienced the short end of the stick when working with advisors who sold them products on commission (products that benefit the seller more than the client). We provide a transparent, fiduciary alternative to the world of hidden commissions and pushy product sales.


What type of client does the firm serve best?

My services are well suited to individuals and couples preparing for retirement in the coming 10-15 years, or retirees. My practice is split between couples and single women (either by choice or widows).
